THINK TWICE, my friends.

Now is the not the time to quit, or put off until the New Year to “start fresh,” heck no, it’s the time to maintain or even kick it up a notch.

I know, I know, it’s a busy, busy time and you’ve got holiday shopping to do, holiday parties to plan and attend, and vacations to travel for, but let me lay it all out for you.

Here are 5 reasons you’ll want to stick with your regime before, during and after your holiday bustle. Come January 1, you’ll want to thank me because you won’t be playing catch up or crying through your workouts.

Not only that, but how many of you have made New Year’s Resolutions to get in shape? We all have! And we’ve all puttered out come March; then maybe try to rev it up again for bikini weather.

Here’s the deal. Slow and steady wins the race. I tell my clients this all the time. It’s not about killing yourself with heavy weights or crazy workouts to get in shape; instead find something you love, make sure it’s convenient, then get it in the calendar 2-3 times a week and stick with it. I promise you, you’ll never have to think twice about when, why or how you’re going to workout again.

My top 5 reasons to stick with it:

1.) Holiday Stress/Family time:

Yes, we love them dearly, but sometimes, just sometimes they can get a little.. eh, uh.. you know what I’m trying to say.

So rather than put your bod on the back burner, move it, move it and beat the stress out of it. Exercise creates endorphins, endorphins make you happy, happy people don’t strangle their family members.

2.) Food:

Ahh yeah, my favorite part! I like it, eat a lot of it, and then I beat myself up for it later. How about this, eat it, but move your bod before and after, then come January you won’t still feel like a stuffed turkey who wants to go cold turkey on food all together.

There’s no reason you shouldn’t partake in all the yummy holiday food, it only comes once a year, right? But if you want to feel less guilty about it, move your bod before you head out for the festivities.

3.) Your favorite jeans:

I have a pair and they don’t fit. Wanna know why, because I put my movement practice on the backburner. It drives me mad! Nuff said. Move.

4.) Libations:

Woo hoo! Let the good times roll. It’s the same as with food. This is the good stuff, and mama likes her beer, and for a gal whose family likes to have an entire keg present for their Thanksgiving holiday.. well, it can get ugly after a week of imbibing. Wine, cocktails, you name it, they take a toll on your body. Combine that with pumpkin pie.. good gravy!

5.) Germs, Cold Weather, Colds

All of the above combined can lead to that dreaded winter cold and really take the fun out of the holiday season. How many of you have collapsed with the flu after all the holiday hubbub? Here’s what you do to prevent it. MOVE!

Are you picking up what I’m throwing down here? Yes, you need to move your body, (and be sure to hydrate, too!) and you’ll thrive through the holiday season.

Are you thinking, “Oh, yeah, and how am I going to do that?!” Here are my suggestions.

• Find something you enjoy

Do you love Pilates as much as I do? Great! Find a studio or videos to practice to. If you don’t love it, you’ll come up with every excuse possible not to go.

  • Make sure it’s convenient

Do you have a studio close to your home? Have you found Pilates videos to download? If it’s not convenient, it’s easy to give up on it all together.

  • Grab a buddy

Accountability is key! You can always encourage each other or drag the other person along if they’re lacking motivation.

  • SCHEDULE IT!

This is SO key! If it’s not in the calendar, it’s not going to happen. Totally serious. Make a date with yourself and keep it. If for some reason you need to miss it, reschedule it. You are important enough to make an appointment with yourself and for yourself.

I speak from experience here, so I thought I’d spare you the hardship. 🙂

I’d love to hear how you’re maintaining your exercise program throughout the holiday season. Please leave a comment below and share with me what you’re doing and how you plan to stay on track!
